Lady Gaga is the latest celebrity to suffer a nip slip on social media.
According to E! Online, Gaga’s selfie nip slip happened while Mama Monster was chilling on a plane and listening to some music. She captioned the photo below, “FASHUN: Vintage Mugler on the plane Listening to Miles Davis My favorite is Flamenco Sketches.”
Lady Gaga’s breast escaped from her crisp white shirt while she was snapping her selfie, and the singer seemed completely oblivious that her photo featured a little too much flesh for Instagram’s strict no-nipple policy. To be fair, she probably couldn’t check her shirt to make sure everything was covered up while she was taking the selfie — that comical conical gold collar probably made it pretty hard to look down.
Lady Gaga later deleted the nip slip photo, so apparently she didn’t mean to flash her fans. She also seemingly acknowledged that the photo flash was a faux pas with a tweet about that awkward moment when you can’t find an emoji to express what you’re feeling by tweeting, “Where is the face palm emoji when u need it?”
Gaga didn’t mean to draw attention to the “Free the Nipple” campaign by sharing her inadvertent nip slip selfie, but now the movement gets buzz every time a famous nipple pops up on Instagram. This is partly because of what Scout Willis did back in May.
The daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore made headlines by protesting Instagram’s anti-nudity policy with a topless stroll through the streets of Manhattan. She shared photos of her protest walk on Twitter and explained her lack of a top by writing, “Legal in NYC but not on @instagram.”
The “Free the Nipple” campaign is a fight for women’s rights that seeks to “decriminalize the female body.” Basically it’s about making it possible for women to be topless everywhere men can be topless, including Instagram. On XO Jane, Scout Willis explained that she singled out Instagram because her account got deleted for “instances of abuse” involving nudity. The offending photos featured Scout wearing a sheer shirt and a jacket with a picture of two topless women on the back.
According to the Daily News, Cara Delevingne also recently showed her support for the “Free the Nipple” campaign and the documentary of the same name by sharing an Instagram photo of a topless man and woman. The man had his nipple exposed, and the woman’s was covered with a black X. It’s unclear if the woman in the photo is Cara.
Unlike Delevingne and Willis, Lady Gaga actually wasn’t trying to start a conversation about nipples, and she’s not the only celeb to share an accidental nip slip selfie. As The Inquisitr previously reported, there was a big debate over whether or not Kim Kardashian exposed a nipple when she posted an Instagram photo meant to show off a blonde wig. Selena Gomez also recently tumbled out of her top while posing for a photo with some friends in NYC.
Are you surprised that Lady Gaga’s nip slip selfie was just a mistake? She’s definitely not shy when it comes to her body, so maybe she needs to officially join the “Free the Nipple” movement.
