New Video Game Releases For The Week Of July 20, 2014
The new video game releases for the week of June 20, 2014 continue the slow drip that defines the summer release schedule. Both consoles and PC are as barren as the desert as it was last week with only a few droppings of spice to liven up the otherwise bleak landscape.
Forza: Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year leads the pack for the new video game releases this week. Originally a launch title for the Xbox One which currently holds an 80 on Metacritic. The game is well received for its graphical fidelity and racing mechanics, but was panned for the obnoxious VIP Membership, token and unrealistic grinding mechanics which gave the game a “free-to-play” feel.
Despite these issues, the game is being released again as a Game of the Year edition and will include the original content as well as 18 additional racing tracks as the Top Gear car pack which includes 10 additional cards.
The game will release at $60 on July 22.
Fans of the Oddworld franchise will be happy with the inclusion of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! in this weeks new video game releases. Developed in partnership with Stewart Gilray’s Just Add Water studio, New ‘n’ Tasty! will be the third Oddworld game developed by the studio for Oddworld Inhabitants.
New ‘n’ Tasty! is a remake, built from scratch, of the original PlayStation One game from 1997 which centered on the titular Abe. The series has often followed a central theme of corrupted industrial practices on picturesque planets with Abe being a slave worker to RaptureFarms, a meat packing company. The remake will follow a similar story while using the original assets, including the original source code, as inspiration for the forthcoming game.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! will release at $30 and feature Cross Save and Cross Buy for the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita platforms. However, only the PS3 version is being released this week.
The remainder of the releases are almost evenly split between downloadable Nintendo offerings such as Master Reboot and Siesta Fiesta, and a great deal of PC indie releases such as Gods Will Be Watching and Unrest.
