Pharrell Williams is the latest award-winning musician to lend his instantly recognizable name to the upcoming NBA 2K15 soundtrack.
Instead of simply grabbing a stack of songs he wanted to hear, the “Happy” singer took a slightly different approach to curating the aforementioned tracklist. Pharrell, who said he was “pumped” to help out with the next installment of the long-running video game franchise, decided to get a little female assistance with the project.
According to Billboard, Pharrell assembled a team of ladies to discuss what songs should appear on the NBA 2K15 soundtrack. Since they knew a bit more about the sport than Williams, he thought they couple separate the bricks from the slam dunks.

Pharrell William said during a recent press conference:
“They know so much more about the sport than I do. I’m not screaming like touchdown, but after free throw, lay up and couple dunks… I know what a crossover is but don’t know how to do one.”
The acclaimed producer added:
“These are girls that play the game and… their boyfriends play or their friends play, I thought it would be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, they listen to it just as much, I tried to pick an alternative approach… How do you follow up LeBron and Jay? I gotta take a different route. I don’t know I just thought it’d be cool.”
According to Market Watch, the masterminds behind the NBA 2K franchise are extremely excited to have Pharrell’s input on the upcoming title. The team previously worked with Lebron James and Jay Z on the basketball game’s all-important soundtrack.
Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K, gushed:
“Pharrell’s passion and reputation as a visionary producer and expertise from working with the NBA will be evident in the largest and most eclectic NBA 2K soundtrack ever. We really listened to our fans’ feedback on how we could improve their experience from a music standpoint, and we’re confident Pharrell’s collaboration in NBA 2K15 will impress players as much as it’s impressed us.”
Pharrell Williams has his fingers in a number of lucrative pies this days. In addition to producing and recording a ton of hit records, The Inquisitr previously reported that Williams is assembling a stylish collection of clothing for the folks at Adidas. The line should arrive on retail shelves in the near future.
The singer said of the fashionable collaboration:
“I’ve had my own brand for 10 years now and had a deal with another company in the past so it will not affect anything, especially since I have the right team around me to help manage these projects. Music will always be my first love and what I focus on, but I’m really appreciative to Adidas for allowing me to further develop and understand my design dreams.”
