Lil Wayne Admits That He Doesn’t Know How To Battle Rap [Video]

Lil Wayne certainly knows his way around a recording studio, but the musician admits that he doesn’t really know how to battle rap.

Although a lot of rappers test their mettle by spitting freestyle lyrics against their adversaries, chances are fans won’t catch Wayne squaring off with his foes anytime soon. According to All Hip Hop, Weezy doesn’t have the chops to lyrically devastate the competition. Those are Wayne’s words, by the way.

During the latest edition of Weezy Wednesdays, Lil Wayne discussed his aversion to dissing other rappers. Since the guy understands his lyrical limitations, he doesn’t engage in battles with folks who can demolish him on the mic.

Here’s what Lil Wayne had to say about the situation:

“I don’t know how to battle rap. For instance, you don’t see me diss. I don’t diss people. I don’t really now how to do that. I don’t know how to battle rap — talk about what you got on. I don’t know how to do that s**t… I’m letting you now. Mook don’t come at me dog. Don’t swing at me neck. I bow down. I’m letting y’all fans know now, I ain’t f**king with Mook… My arms too short to box with you God.”

Although Lil Wayne isn’t the sharpest battle rapper on the block, that doesn’t mean he’s not getting tons of respect from other people in the game. The Inquisitr previously reported that Young Money rapper Kevin Gates feels Weezy was a huge inspiration.

Gates explained:

“[Lil Wayne] is more of a mentor… He gave me a different approach with music. I used to sit in there and watch him. Let me tell you something about Tunechi—about that boy. That boy comes to the studio everyday and grind as if he doesn’t have a dollar in his pocket. He comes to that studio everyday and grind as if he doesn’t have a dollar in his pocket. You know, when I saw that — this the game? — he told me, ‘all you gotta do is grind,’ Grind.”

Even if Lil Wayne can’t battle with the best of them, people are still looking forward to his latest album Tha Carter V. Unfortunately for fans who want the record right now, we still don’t have a proper release date to speak of at the moment. In fact, Lil Wayne recently claimed he can’t remember when the songs should drop.

“I’m so not good with that. I think it drops either in September and then we have… ah I can’t tell you the sneak thing. Anyway, yeah, I think it drops in September or August. It might drop before then, in July. [Or] August 25 or something like that?”

Are you surprised that Lil Wayne isn’t a good battle rapper?
