Chloe Grace Moretz Takes The Lead In ‘The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya’

Chloe Grace Moretz will voice the main character in The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, the latest animated tale from acclaimed director Isao Takahata.

Studio Ghibli, the company responsible for such legendary films as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, is teaming up with the folks at GKIDS to bring the movie to North American shores. Since Stateside moviegoers have a natural aversion to subtitles, a handful of popular actors are lending their voices to the English version of the film.

According to Coming Soon, Chloe Grace Moretz will tackle the lead role in Princess Kaguya. However, she won’t have to go it alone. The American version of the tale also stars James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Darren Criss, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, James Marsden, Oliver Platt, and Dean Cain. That’s a lot of talent.

Here’s what the film is all about:

“Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo, a tiny girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) grows into an exquisite young lady, raised by an old bamboo cutter and his wife. From the countryside to the grand capital city, even unseen she enthralls all who encounter her, including five noble suitors. Ultimately she must face her fate, punishment for her crime.”

First Showing reports that Chloe Grace Moretz fans can catch the animated flick in theaters beginning October 17. Although initial distribution is reportedly limited, there are currently plans to roll out the film nationwide later this year.

Hopefully The Tale of the Princess Kaguya will perform well at the box office, otherwise Moretz might point the finger of blame directly at movie piracy. The Inquisitr previously reported that torrents and illegal downloading ultimately hurt Kick-Ass 2 at the box office. According to Chloe, that is.

When asked if Kick-Ass 3 is presently in the works, Moretz explained:

“You know, I hope, I wish. That’s be fun. That’d be great. I doubt it, but I would love it. The hard thing is if fans want a third movie, they’ve got to go buy the ticket to go see the movie. It was like the second most pirated movie of the year, so if you want a movie to be made into a second, a third, a fourth and a fifth, go buy a ticket. Don’t pirate it.”

The Studio Ghibli flick isn’t the only endeavor Chloe Grace Moretz has headed to theaters this year. The Hick star stars alongside Keira Knightley in director Lynn Shelton’s upcoming comedy Laggies. Check out the trailer below.
