Joy the Dog was lucky that Animal Aid Unlimited came to the rescue.
Animal Aid is a U.S.-based organization that runs a shelter in Udaipur, Rajasthan India, for stray animals of all types. “Animal Aid’s purpose is to both bring relief to suffering animals, and to awaken compassion among people. Showing everyone a path for action is where we begin,” the group says on its site.
But Animal Aid volunteers may have gone above and beyond even their own mission when they rescued Joy, a dog who wandered on to train tracks — and was struck by an onrushing train.
Amazingly, Joy — the name the dog later received from the Animal Aid workers — somehow dodged out of the way of a direct collision with the train. But the frightened dog could not get his front legs away in time.
The train struck Joy, severely damaging the dog’s legs.
Animal Aid got a call and was on the scene right away. And as you’ll see in this awe-inspiring and tearjerking video, the animal aid workers immediately began the gentle dog on his journey to walking again — on two legs rather than four.
Now, please be warned: some of the images of Joy, toward the beginning of the video, are graphic and frankly. difficult to look at. But if you stick with the video to the end, we doubt you’ll be able to keep a dry eye, and you’ll know that it was worth sitting through the hard parts.
We hope that you’ll take inspiration not only from Joy’s incredible spirit, from the compassion and determination of the Animal Aid Unlimited workers to help an animal that many others may have simply left for dead.
