Pet Food Store Owner Eats Pet Food For A Simple Reason: Watch The Video Here

Pet food is typically not something a person chooses to eat, but one particular person is choosing to eat pet food for a seemingly good reason.

According to WebProNews, Dorothy Hunter of Washington state is a pet food store owner on a mission to spread a message. She believes all pet parents should know exactly what they are feeding their pets. In order to raise awareness, Dorothy decided to eat pet food for 30 days.

Dorothy claims that the idea sprang to her when she was really hungry and just needed something to eat.

“I was really busy one day. We were getting ready for a car show in a hurry to get stuff done that day. I didn’t want to take time to leave the store to get something to eat so I just grabbed a package off the shelf,” the pet food store owner admitted.

While many people would have been happy to just skip the meal instead of eating pet food, Dorothy took advantage of her snacking habit to gain attention. She wants pet owners to check the labels on not just the pet food that they purchase. She thinks that eating pet food can raise awareness about checking labels on regular food for people as well.

Coincidentally, Dorothy’s pet food binge happens at the same time that her store, Paws Natural Pet Emporium, is expanding.

Has the tactic paid off? Dorothy Hunter claims that eating pet chow has been worth it so far. She began eating cat and dog food on June 19, and her mission is almost over.

“People are so shocked by the story that they are actually reading the ingredients on products and asking, ‘What is this?’ So, I’m really happy that came out, that was my main goal. People read the ingredients, be aware of what they’re feeding to their pets, kids or themselves because there’s a lot of stuff out there that’s not very good,” Hunter said.

The pet food store owner knows exactly what to do with snacks that are a little too disgusting for her to continue to eat.

“If I try something and I don’t like it, my dogs are getting it. So that’s worked out real well for them. They’re happy with that part. They’re a little confused as to why I’m eating the dog food, but they’re getting over it,” said Hunter.

Most of the pet food is carefully chosen by Dorothy so she doesn’t have to worry about eating something too gross. Sometimes she posts her snacking adventures on YouTube. In one instance, she eats something that doesn’t agree with her that is clearly labeled as “not meant for human consumption.” You can see the video below.

“I’ve also been doing our oven baked blueberry treats, as well as freeze dried green beans, carrots,” she told a TV station. “I’m even doing some canned cat food, one is a succulent chicken, and it actually tastes really good. So I’m really happy with that one. I don’t do raw bones or meat products like that, or the frozen because I’m just not into raw.”

Hunter has managed to lose a few pounds by eating pet food, according to Huffington Post. Her employee, Amanda Kempf, has also began to eat pet food, and even feeds it to her kids to spread the message.

Nutrition experts warn that eating pet food for a long time may make a person sick because the food is not nutritionally designed to support humans. People are encouraged to snack on food designed for humans instead of pet food, and most people will not find that piece of advice hard to digest.

While Hunter’s actions of eating pet food come across as strong and even a bit disgusting to some, time will only tell whether or not the message will sink in to families everywhere to check the labels on their pet food and human food purchases.
