Blizzard “serious” about bringing Diablo III to consoles

At a press conference at Gamescom from earlier today, Blizzard’s Josh Mosqueira stated that the company is serious about bringing Diablo III over to consoles.

Not just serious, though – they’re “very, very serious about bringing the Diablo III experience to the console.” So much so, in fact, that they’re recruiting new talent specifically for the purpose of console development.

“Today, we’re trying to build the best console team at Blizzard. We’re looking for programmers, designers, artists who think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console. Trust me, it is a dream job,” Mosqueira said.

While not explicitly confirming that Diablo III is definitely coming to consoles, he did follow up that previous statement with something that all but announced it: “All I can say is it’s going to be awesome. Stay tuned.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers of a possible port of the popular hack-‘n’-slash RPG over to consoles. Aside from the rumors and speculation to that effect, Blizzard has frequently teased the possibility of a console port, though we’ve never seen them be this strong with their wording.

If we’re lucky, we just might hear something more official by the time Blizzcon 2011 rolls around in October. If we’re even more lucky, we just might get an actual release date for the PC version. One can dream, right?
