Rolling Stone reports that Jay Z and Beyonce’s On the Run tour will be coming directly to your living room via HBO. The hip-hop power couple will film the HBO special during their time in Paris and the show will come to HBO in September 2014. The special will be taped over the span of their two nights in Paris on September 12 and 13.
This is not the first time that HBO has courted the king and queen of hip-hop. In the past, HBO has aired clips from Beyonce’s Mrs. Carter World Tour and previously broadcast the popular Bey doc Life Is but a Dream and the Jay Z film Picasso Baby. Fans can expect to hear 40 of their favorite Bey and Jay songs during the upcoming HBO special. The Boston Herald released the following statement from HBO’s programming president Michael Lombardo regarding the decision to move forward with the On the Run partnership:
This is a major musical event that belongs on HBO. It’s going to be a night to remember.
The On the Run tour kicked off with a show in Miami in late June and features Jay and Bey in a two hour set during which fans can soak in their favorite Beyonce and Jay Z songs. It will hit 19 U.S. cities and spend two nights in Paris, France before it is all said in done in September.
This is the first joint tour for the couple. Furthermore, the shows are expected to attract record breaking crowds and the HBO special is anticipated to fare exceptionally well with viewers and critics alike.
Between the two of them, Jay and Bey have more than 30 Grammy awards under their belt. Beyonce has taken 17 home herself, while Jay Z has earned 19. They have collaborated on several songs together in the past, and during the tour Beyonce will fill the role on some of Jay’s songs on which other’s have collaborated. Some notable songs said to be part of the HBO special will include: “Crazy in Love” and “Drunk in Love,” and ” ’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” “Upgrade U”.
