Michael Muhney: Interview With ‘The Young And The Restless’ Producer Vaguely Sets Record Straight

Fans of Michael Muhney will get scant information about his reprisal as Adam Newman on The Young and The Restless in a new interview executive producer Jill Farren Phelps gave to Soap Opera Digest. The interview is available in the July 14 issue of the magazine. Hollywood Daily News reveals that, when asked how the casting for Adam Newman is going, Phelps said, “It’s going.”

Celebrity Dirty Laundry posts some of the comments Jill Farren Phelps made in her interview with Soap Opera Digest.

Phelps said of Adam’s return:

“We hope so. He’s a very pivotal character. His return will blow the canvas right open.”

Phelps added:

“The show must go on and it has successfully done so for over 40 years, and it will continue to. We are only going to get stronger and stronger.”

The executive producer of Y&R asked that fans consider this:

“We want everybody to be happy all the time, but stuff happens and people leave. People die. The show must go on and it has successfully done so for over 40 years, and it will continue to… We are aware of the fact that sometimes there is an adjustment that we ask the audience to make, but we believe that if they just stay with us, they will have their characters back and their stories will be told.”

Cameron Mathison let fans on social media know that he wasn’t cast in the Newman role after many believed he would take over Muhney’s character.

On June 17, Michael’s mother cleared up any confusion on Twitter that the hands seen as Adam’s on The Young and The Restless were those of her son’s:

“I hate to dash anyone’s hopes, but those aren’t Michael’s hands on ‘Y&R.’ His tweets have NOTHING to do with the show.”

Michael’s mother posted this answer on Twitter when a fan asked her about the Hunter King (Summer) allegations:

“Michael gave the answers to his exit in his last interview. As to rumors, gossip rags quoted an anonymous fan who posted on a message board. Silly. There’s never a need to comment on rumors. They’re neverending!”

Clearly, Michael Muhney isn’t coming back to Y&R. He was fired last December over allegations that he groped Y&R co-star Hunter King. He was let go from the cast without any real justification from the show or the network. Muhney fans have actively protested his absence from the show and ratings haven’t been the best for the CBS daytime drama.
