‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’ Season 3 Movie In The Works, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ Characters And Release Date Hinted At By Ed Boon

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 3 movie is apparently still chugging along even though Season 2 did not exactly have a warm reception from fans considering the cliffhanger ending. But fans may get excited if it’s true that the Mortal Kombat X characters will include horror movie favorites like Freddy Krueger and Jason

In a related report by The Inquisitr, Mortal Kombat 10 creator Ed Boon has been promising multiple new characters since E3 and there is a lot of speculation about who or what they may be. One thing we do know for certain is that the Mortal Kombat X gore will be ratcheted up a notch even in comparison to previous titles.

While at one point Kevin Tancharoen did give up on Mortal Kombat: Legacy, it was revealed back in March that the director was talking about bringing the web series back:

“We are starting to talk about it [‘Legacy’ Season 3] literally this week (knock on wood). I’m starting to talk to Warner Bros. and the video game creators, so hopefully we can see it through…. With ‘Legacy’ Season 1, it was kind of a big experiment. No one has done it before, and we didn’t know if should be an anthology or connected. We did the first one as an anthology and the second one more serialized. In the future, it will definitely be more connected and more cohesive… We all feel right now that we have such a trajectory to the series. There are so many more stories to tell in that format.”

Actor Casper Van Dien, who will play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 3, seemed to confirm via Twitter that Tancharoen managed to work out a deal since he made this tweet:

Unfortunately, that’s about all we’ve heard about the Mortal Kombat movie. But news about the Mortal Kombat X release date should be coming down the pipeline very soon based upon tweets from Boon:

Now speculation about the Mortal Kombat X characters roster including Freddy Krueger (who was in MK9) and Jason has been promoted by Boon himself:

It’s possible it could happen since Warner Bros. also happens to own the rights to Freddy, but unfortunately Freddy is unlikely to happen since Warner Bros. recently relinquished its rights for the character to New Line Cinemas since Paramount Pictures started working on the next Friday the 13th movie.

The Mortal Kombat X release date is rumored for March of 2015. What characters would you like to see?
