Ding, Ding Ding: Taco Bell Waffle Taco VS McDonald’s McGriddle

Do you love the Taco Bell Waffle Taco? Do you love it more than McDonald’s McGriddle? Are you sure? We ask because Consumer Reports conducted an official ‘study‘ that once and for all settles the debate about which delicacy is the best!

What Are You Talking About?

Every year, the Yonkers-based non-profit Consumer Reports conducts a survey of the top fast-food chains in the country. While conducting this year’s survey (in which Taco Bell and McDonald’s ranked worst in their respective categories, ironically enough), the zany minds at Consumer Reports decided to personally pit the Taco Bell Waffle Taco against McDonald’s McGriddle.

What Are These Waffle Taco And McGriddle Things?

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the Taco Bell Waffle Taco, which only arrived two months ago, is nothing more than a warm waffle “taco” wrapped around some fluffy eggs, some delicious cheese and either a sausage patty or some bacon. It’s served with maple syrup. Mmm!

According to McDonald’s itself, the McGriddle is nothing more than two syrup-infused mini pancakes used like buns to house toppings like cheese, scrabbled eggs and either bacon or sausage. Another mmm!

What Happened During The Taste Test?

Three “expert testers” ordered a slew of Waffle Tacos and McGriddles from various Taco Bell and McDonald’s restaurants in and around Consumer Reports’ Yonkers headquarters. Without a second to waste, the brave testers then settled into their car and chowed down on their grub like a boss.

The testers report that the Taco Bell Waffle Taco’s cheese was “bland.” However, they enjoyed the syrup, which they said “contributed to a pleasant sweet and savory character.”

Meanwhile, the McGriddle turned out to be two-thirds larger than its peer. Furthermore, its cheese tasted better, as did its bacon. The only negative about the McGriddle was that it left a somewhat bitter taste in the tasters’ mouth, though according to Consumer Reports, “it wasn’t a deal breaker.”

So Who’s The Winner?

The winner of the first (and likely last) battle of the fast food giants is… the McDonald’s McGriddle! It turns out that the testers quite preferred its “tastier bacon” and more flavorful cheese. Mind you, they readily admit that both ‘sandwiches’ are equally unhealthy. The stats prove it:

Bacon, Egg and Cheese Taco Bell Waffle Taco:

  • Price: $2.69
  • Serving Size: 3.6 Ounces
  • Calories: 320
  • Fat: 18 Grams

Bacon, Egg and Cheese McDonald’s McGriddle:

  • Price: $3.29-$3.49
  • Serving Size: 6.1 Ounces
  • Calories: 460
  • Fat: 21 Grams

So there you have it! Do you agree with their decision? If not, tell us why!
