‘Alien: Isolation’ Gameplay To Feature Missions From Original Film

Alien: Isolation gameplay is going all the way to remind us where the franchise started. Select retailers in the UK will grant exclusive access to one of the missions which takes place during the original Ridley Scott film, and the other mission will supposedly be available as DLC worldwide.

The upcoming movie tie-in will mostly feature Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda, who is tasked with figuring out what happened without meeting her sure demise at the hands (claws?) of the extraterrestrial monster. She will be armed only with a motion tracker and a flashlight, so survival horror purists will be in luck.

The DLC missions tying in with the original film will also feature the voices of the original actors and actresses who played key roles in Alien. Sigourney Weaver, Yaphet Kotto, Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartright, Harry Dean Stanton, and Ian Holm are all lending their voices to this game to add to the authenticity and hopefully bring back the feeling that the late H.R. Giger gave us in 1979.

The Alien: Isolation gameplay DLC will include “Crew Expendable” in the Nostromo Edition, and the UK exclusive “Last Survivor.”

“Crew Expendable” will follow the moments directly after Brett’s death, and will have the crew working together to lure the alien into the airlock. The mission probably won’t work the same way it did in the movie, just to keep the challenge level up. Otherwise if you’ve seen it enough times all you have to do is follow how the film did it.

Video games based on movies usually excel when they don’t follow the film exactly.

The UK exclusive “Last Survivor” mission will have the player following the footsteps of Ripley, ensuring the Nostromo self destructs before reaching the Narcissus and escaping the disaster herself.

Creative lead Alistair Hope commented on the importance of casting the original voices for the Alien: Isolation gameplay bonus:

“It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience.”

We can only hope that the nostalgia matches the fun when the Alien: Isolation release date hits on October 7 for PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. Does the promise of an authentic tie-in to the original film make you excited for some Alien: Isolation gameplay?
