WWE News: WWE Trying To Force Feed John Cena As The Greatest WWE Champion Ever

John Cena has been a dedicated member of the WWE since 2002 and became the face of World Wrestling Entertainment. Since his inception into the spotlight, Cena poured his heart out to the WWE Universe in and out of the squared circle. With his 15th WWE championship, he moved into second place on the all-time list of WWE championship reigns. He rests one behind the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.

That said, it begs the million-dollar question: is Cena the greatest WWE champion of all-time? It will be up to each fan’s interpretation of a great champion. Some could say Triple H, Flair, Orton or even Stone Cold are better kings than Cena.

WWE has been on a tirade, attempting to make the Universe think that Cena is the greatest champion in history. Take it from legendary announcer Jim Ross that took to Twitter in light of the situation.

A couple of news outlets are reporting that WWE is attempting to make the fans believe it as well. Ross is a very keen observer of professional wrestling, but WWE’s subtle nature is not being ignored.

He does make a great case to be the best of all-time, although I’m not sure the hardcore fans from the Attitude Era will agree with the decision. To settle the debate, purely by statistics, below is the top-5 list of WWE champions.

  1. Ric Flair — 16
  2. John Cena — 15
  3. Triple H — 13
  4. Randy Orton and Hulk Hogan — 12
  5. Edge — 11

That is quite the list of WWE Hall of Famers and future members, as Cena, HHH and Orton will make it eventually. Since Cena is bound to tie or defeat Flair’s record of 16, maybe he is the greatest WWE champion in the history of professional wrestling. Let’s face it, WWE is the catalyst of professional wrestling and if a wrestler dominates there, the success trumps all other promotions.

When he does pass Flair, then he should merit the title of “best in the world.” However, WWE trying to force feed the fans that he is now is ludicrous and unwarranted. Sure, the children and women love Cena and everything he does, but most will disagree with the claim of how great he really is.

One man that is set to take Cena’s place as “the man” is Roman Reigns. It’s fairly evident that he will be the face of the company when Cena starts to wind down. In 10 years, we will all be complaining that Reigns wins too much and he should stop burying young talent.

It is truly the circle of life for popular superstars.

WWE will continue to tell the fans that Cena is the greatest. Whether you agree it with or not, that will be the bottom line for the foreseeable future. Comment below on your thoughts of Cena being listed as the greatest in WWE history. Personally, I’ll need to see 17 championships before I can say that he is.
