Indian Mobile Co. Spice Has A Fully Functioning Dual SIM Calling Smart-Watch For Just $70

Wearable technology has been getting some much needed mainstream attention lately. Thankfully, regional manufactures have taken a serious note of the trend and started to come-up with products that do not drain the wallet to have a technology laden wrist.

Spice Telecom, an Indian mobile company that even operates a GSM service within the country has offered a smart-watch. While there are multiple smart-watches by reputed brands out there from the likes of Samsung, Sony and such, the smart-watch christened Smart Pulse M-9010 has some unique features of its own.

Touting to be a complete communications solution on its own, the Smart Pulse M-9010 has GSM slots. Yes, the Smart Pulse M-9010 has two GSM SIM Slots, when majority of the smart-watches out there do not even have one. However, unfortunately neither of the SIM slots offers 4G or even 3G connectivity, limiting the internet connectivity and speed. Nonetheless, these slots enable the smart-watch to make and receive calls independently, no phone required, reported fonearena.

Interestingly, instead of using Android’s Operating System designed specifically for smart-watches, called Android Wear, Smart Pulse runs on a proprietary Java-based OS and that perhaps is the phones biggest shortcoming. Google’s Android Wear, though in its nascent stage, is supported by the search giant and it is sure to get a whole lot better and will continually improve. The Smart Pulse by Spice on the other hand may not receive any updates and will be stuck with whatever the company has infused in it.

On the positive front, once paired with a smartphone, users will be able to see notifications, receive calls, view call logs, read and write SMS, remote camera capture and music streaming. The smart-watch comes with a 1.3 MP camera and has a micro SD card slot that only takes up to 8GB memory card, reported NDTV.

The smart-watch may not be for the international market, but Spice has clearly shown the courage to test the waters in developing countries for wearable technologies. People in these regions are surely eager to test smart-watches but are certain to be put off by those offered by Samsung, Google and Sony.

Packing a 420mAh Li-Ion battery, Smart Pulse M-9010 will be able to offer up to 180 minutes of talk time and up to 2 days of standby time. But the best part is the pricing. Spice has priced the Smart Pulse M-9010 smart-watch at just INR 3,999 ($68), which is far lower than any of its competitors. Is the device worthy of a try?
