Lana Del Rey Talks More About Her ‘Ultraviolence’ Album, Possible Duet With Courtney Love

Lana Del Rey has been heavily promoting and touring for her big album release, Ultraviolence. The singer’s album has already topped the Billboard charts at No.1, so it would only make sense that Del Rey would talk even more about the album that’s making her a commercial success. During an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Del Rey spoke about working with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Here’s a hint: the whole collaboration made her feel “interesting.” Apparently a lot of the recording on Ultraviolence had a lot to do with the environments that she was recording in.

“Obviously, it’s impossible to write a record if you don’t feel really sensual about it and confident, and I think for me, what makes me confident changes every day… but generally I would say confidence for me just comes from being really happy and that could be anything down to my environment or being lucky enough to have my muse with me, [or hearing] a really amazing melody for the first time.”

Of The Black Keys legend, Lana said that the musician gave her the confidence that she didn’t have before she worked with him. She explained the experience:

“At the point I met Dan I didn’t feel that confident. It sounds strange but him being interested in me made me feel interesting. He was a guy and he just kind of treated me like this New Yorker girl who wanted to make a record and was like, ‘Hey, let’s just see what happens.’ But he was in love with the songs.”

Although Ultraviolence is a smash hit in every sense of the word, Lana Del Rey insists that it’s not about the success but rather about how people are feeling the album. The singer explained to Lowe:

“I think it’s about it being received in the right way and people really liking it. Usually I don’t really care, I don’t think too much about it [success], but I’m really, really grateful.”

Aside from the focus on her album, a lot has been said about the comments Lana Del Rey made about romanticizing death at a young age, and the Tweets that conversation prompted between Del Rey and the child of late rocker Kurt Cobain. In an interesting twist, Francis Bean Cobain’s estranged mother Courtney Love hinted that she might be doing a duet with Lana Del Rey.
