Kickstarter’s Bizarre Potato Salad Surpassed $44K In Funding, But Now It Shows $15K, Marketing Genius Or Typo Error?

The world of Kickstarter has seen many a quirky appeals for funding. However, lately a bizarre entry is making heads turns and more surprisingly, loosening purse strings.

Reported by The Inquisitr earlier this week, Zack Brown’s quest to make his first-ever batch of potato salad, has been making waves on the crowd-funding platform. Interestingly as on yesterday morning, the quirky Kickstarter campaign had amassed more $44,000. But suddenly at 6:30 p.m, the funding was back to $15,000.

While $15K itself for such a project seems quite absurd, the glitch in Kickstarter fortunately had a plausible explanation. According to a Kickstarter spokesman, tens of thousands of dollars in “ghost” pledges were probably a result of user error.

“When you’re backing a project you get to choose how much money you wish to pledge. It’s very possible that someone chose $10,000 instead of $100,” Justin Kazmark said. We’ve updated the post to reflect the fix.

Interestingly, Zack Brown, the man that has though of getting his first ever attempt at making a simple potato salad funded via kicstarter, has a middle name that is quite unlike the culinary endeavor he is about to embark on. His middle name is ‘Danger’.

However, the man behind Kickstarter’s $44,000 $15,000 (and counting) campaign, confidently says he’s ready for the challenge. Why shouldn’t he, when over 1,900 people have actually pledged anywhere between $1 and $100 for his maiden attempt at making a potato salad. Asked about the faith that so many strangers have placed on him, Zack merely shrugged and said, “I feel no pressure at all,” reported Washington Post.

“We will not be letting the Internet down,” said Zack. It is still a little hard to explain why would netizens pledge over $15,000 dollars which need not be funded in the first place. However, the Potato Salad Project has evidently caught the attention of people who wish to see others succeed. By keeping the goal simple Zack has allowed the project to appear quite sincere,

“There was never any, ‘Hey how can we validate our business model?’. It was about potato salad and potato salad only. Sincerity is important. That’s why people react to it.”

But, Brown is “doing everything he can” to try and deliver the potato salad to anyone who has pledged their hard-earned dollars for one of the most expensive potato salad.
