Battlefield 3 PC retail copies will require Origin client

If you plan on picking up a retail copy of Battlefield 3 for PC this October, I hope you don’t have a problem with EA’s Origin client – because you’ll be required to use it.

The news comes straight from DICE community manager Daniel Matros’ Twitter account. When asked if the retail version would require Origin in order to play, Matros confirmed that it was, in fact, required.

Whether or not that means all digital downloads will also require Origin hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but it seems like a likely scenario. After all, they’ve got to make use of that Battlelog feature on the PC, and funneling PC users into Origin is one way to do just that.

Putting my sour feelings regarding Battlefield 3 not coming to Steam aside, this could actually turn out to be a good thing. After all, it’s much easier to keep up with your pals when you’re all using the same client.

Are you fine with potentially being forced to use Origin?
