Recycled VCR Holding A Mother’s Surprising Secret Stash Almost Thrown Away

A recycled VCR contained a mother’s secret stash that her family sent away to a scrap yard to be hauled away, dismantled, and then shredded. Needless to say, the mom was not exactly happy when she discovered it was missing.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the founder of the Hidden Cash game insists it’s all about social interaction, not money or notoriety. But one Hidden Cash copycat in Florida believes the game could serve a higher purpose, and has been calling the Christian church out for not contributing as much to the poor in comparison to years ago.

Tony Hwang explains how his mother’s secret stash came to be found:

“We were just going through our house, seeing what’s old and what we can get rid of to clean up the house. Kind of like spring cleaning, but in the summer.”

They decided the VCR had to go since it had sat on a shelf in the living room for years without anyone using it to play a tape. Tony says he took the VCR to be recycled at a local high school and he handed it over without looking inside.

Later that day, his mother came home from work and that’s when the fireworks started:

“She was just looking for the VCR. She was really sad, so that’s when we knew it was something more than just a VCR. We (went to the recycling place) on Monday morning to make sure they weren’t working really early, extra hard.”

As it turns out, the mother had hidden a bag stuffed with $6,000 in cash into the slot where VCR tapes are pushed in. Michael Szanyi, owner of Renton-based 1 Green Planet, explained what happened next:

“She was waiting at front of the warehouse with her daughter at 5 a.m. She wanted to go through (on) her own, in all of the trucks, find the VCR. I promised her, ‘don’t worry, I will find it for you.’ The only thing she said was, ‘It’s a black and old VCR.” She was telling me she got it from her mom and it was very important for her. I have my mom in Hungary, and I thought it’s going to be a good Karma.”

Eventually, the family was reunited with their VCR, and most importantly, the $6,000 in cash. Szanyi suggested they keep the money in the bank, but the Hwangs said they’ll probably just stick to a safe… instead of a VCR slot.
