Portia De Rossi Rehab Stint: A Result Of Ellen Degeneres’ ‘Controlling Ways’?

Portia De Rossi and Ellen Degeneres seem to be in the news headlines every other day at the moment, with divorce rumors flying in every direction.

The Inquisitr reported yesterday that Portia recently spent a month in a Malibu rehab facility, for what was assumed to be a drug or drink issue. However, reports which have surfaced today suggest that there may be a whole lot more to it than just substance abuse.

Of course, the press has reported that the marriage issues are due to things like cheating, jealousy, and work — the usual kind of things that cause a rift. But the International Business Times reported that Portia De Rossi’s stint in rehab may have been due to Ellen Degeneres’ controlling ways.

In Touch Magazine reported that the celebrity couple have been having marriage problems, on-and-off, for quite some time now. Apparently, Portia ended up in the Malibu rehab center after Ellen called her out on her excessive drinking, which was becoming a problem.

The publication reported that an inside source revealed to them a little about what goes on behind closed doors at their Holmby Hills Mansion:

“They got into an ugly fight. Portia hadn’t been happy for a while and was drinking and isolating [herself], and Ellen confronted her. Portia lost it and blamed Ellen for driving her to drink because of her controlling ways and said she wasn’t in love with her anymore. Ellen was crushed and screamed at Portia to get out.”

The source added that Degeneres tries to control Portia on a regular basis, due to her submissive personality:

“Ellen is domineering and Portia is passive. Ellen always calls the shots, and Portia never complains. Portia often felt like she’d been cut off from her friends because Ellen wanted her all to herself. Portia felt like she let Ellen turn her into the ultimate Stepford Wife.”

Apparently, Portia De Rossi felt like a prisoner in her own home and turned to the bottle to find comfort:

“Portia felt like a prisoner in her own home. She went from sipping white wine occasionally to drinking at least a bottle or more a day and topping it off with a pill. It got to the point where she was out of it four nights a week. They’ve had vicious shouting matches – with both of them yelling cruel, soul-crushing put-downs that they both deeply regretted.”

The good news is that Portia’s time in rehab seemed to be effective, and the couple are now taking positive and active steps to repair their damaged relationship. They were even seen last Sunday enjoying their luxury yacht off the coast of the Croation island of Hvar, looking happy and calm together.
