Walton Goggins’ Venus Van Dam Returns To Charming On ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Season 7

Sons of Anarchy fans are anxiously awaiting the fate of characters after last season’s cliffhanger, and although season 6 ended in tragedy, there is something to look forward to in season 7.

According to Inside TV, everyone’s favorite transgender escort Venus Van Dam, played by Walton Goggins, will be back for the final season. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter conformed the news on his Twitter account. The tweet read, “I am very happy to report that in season 7 of SOA, THERE WILL BE SOME MUTHAF**KIN’ VENUS!”

Goggins made his debut appearance as Venus Van Dam in season 5 of Sons of Anarchy, and has since appeared thrice in the show. He is also known for his role as Boyd Crowder on Justified. He also played Detective Shane Vendrell on The Shield where he worked with Sutter.

Last October, Goggins said in an interview that he wants to play Venus again. “I wouldn’t be surprised if you see her again before this show is done. I’ll just say that,” he said.

The appearance of Goggins as Venus came as a surprise, as Sutter said that he would never have Walton Goggins on Sons of Anarchy. “The only two people who I could never have on the show are Michael Chiklis and Goggins, because of how closely relatable they are to their characters on The Shield. It would be very hard for our audience to accept them as anybody else,” Sutter said.

However, Goggins was persistent and told Sutter that he would play a transgender just so he could join Sons of Anarchy. “I’ll do it if I can be a transgender. I would like to play a transgender,” Walton told Sutter.

On the set of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Walton received a text from Sutter asking if he was serious about playing Venus Van Dam. “Have you written it?” Walton asked. Sutter said that the role was ready and Walton immediately asked for the script. In an interview, Goggins said that he fell in love with Venus Van Dam’s character and described her as “Sassy, sweet, smart, and beautiful.”

Last season, Venus asked the Sons for help in saving her son from harm. Details regarding Venus’ appearance in season 7 are yet to be announced.

We now know that the first episode of Sons of Anarchy season 7 will be entitled “The Black Widower,” as said by Sutter. He also promised fans of the show that there will be major heartache and Sons of Anarchy will probably be topping the “Red Wedding” episode of Game of Thrones, according to E Online. “Let’s just say you’ll soon be calling that other episode BED WETTING,” Sutter said on Twitter.

Other new faces appearing in the final season are Annabeth Gish and Marilyn Manson. Season 7 will start in September.
