WWE News: WWE Diva Emma Released By WWE, Then Re-Hired In The Same Day In Wake Of Walmart Theft Incident

When you think about black eyes on a company, normally you do not consider small, accidental things in the same window as a major crime that puts other lives at risk. However, the WWE apparently believed that all crimes were equal today. WWE Diva Emma, who is well known for her addictive theme music and dance, accidentally stole a Red iHome Slim Swivel iPad Mini case valued at around $21 from a Hartford, Connecticut Walmart this past Monday.

The story goes that Emma had bought an iPad Mini last week and was very excited about it. So much so that she told the world via her Twitter account. Naturally, she needed a case not to damage the item. So she went to Walmart on Monday, and went through the self-checkout there. She may or may not have had other items with her, however, and she walked out with the item and was caught about 3 miles down the road.

She was then arrested and booked for the theft of the case and charged with 6th Degree Larceny. That sounds worse than it actually is, but I digress. Emma was released within an hour of the ordeal, and then took a plea deal for 1 day of community service. WWE was aware of the case the entire time, and Emma did not appear on WWE RAW last night as a result of her actions.

Today, WWE came to terms to release the Diva because of her actions. Yet around 3 hours later, WWE decided to re-hire her due to a feeling of overreaction to the problem.

Normally when you have a company that is very public, naturally if someone steals, you want to take action. A lot of the time, you fire them over the issue. However, most smartly assume that Emma’s actions were accidental. Interestingly, WWE cannot get away with the idea of just firing someone who made them look bad, oh no. WWE found this out the hard way, as WWE fans spammed WWE.com where the announcement of her release was placed. The fans were correct in what they claimed.

They commented about WWE Superstars Alex Riley and Jack Swagger, who both had DUIs charged against them. Swagger ended up being in a main event at WrestleMania that year, and Alex Riley remained on TV as well. WWE Diva Cameron also had a DUI charged against her, and even tried to bribe the police officer. She lied to the officer as well about her place of employment…most likely to avoid issues with the company. She ended up being allowed to stay on TV and is now one of the stars of the WWE series on E! called Total Divas. Of course others such as RVD and Chris Jericho have been arrested for similar issues.

What do all of these people have in common? None, literally none were released.

So, why would the WWE release Emma over something far more minuet than a DUI that endangered the lives of others? Of course, no one is saying that stealing is okay, even if mistaken that takes away money from a company. While $21 may not be a big deal for Walmart, a billion dollar corporation, it is still wrong. The problem is, if no one else was let go, clearly Emma shouldn’t be either. The fans called out WWE on their action and the WWE realized they were wrong. So Emma may be more over now than ever before, funny enough.

One thing that is telling is that Emma bypassed every security action before leaving the store. She crossed by the horrific Walmart self-checkout system that is usually a devil to control, where the item was allegedly not paid for. She then crossed by the detectors (which go off for unpaid items) as well as Greeter, who often times checks receipts. Then she made it outside, never being told she did anything wrong until her arrest. Far be it that we talk about the mistake and then go back to the store to pay for the item, causing no booking at a police department….but of course that would be too easy.

WWE, while they did re-hire the WWE Diva, did claim that her actions still would not be overlooked, saying:

“Upon further evaluation, the company has reinstated Tenille ‘Emma’ Dashwood to her position in the company.” They added that they “will take appropriate punitive action for her violation of the law.”

This basically means she will be in what many call “jobber hell” for a while, where she won’t be on TV as much and, when she is, she will lose matches she is in. What WWE does is still up in the air, but I am glad Emma did not lose her job over something like this. The Australian native deserves a second chance.
