‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Coming With Tina Fey As Producer [Report]
Hold on to your brooms because Hocus Pocus the sequel is coming to a theater near you thanks to Tina Fey, who is stepping in as producer. Before you start counting down the ways, we’re warning you that this is still a work in progress, and it will be some time before the witches hit you with powerful nostalgia. That said, this won’t include Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, or Kathy Najimy as the leads.
Are you still with us? Instead Hocus Pocus 2 will act as a spin off to the original 1993 kids film. Now this isn’t the first time we’re hearing about movie news in regards to a Hocus Pocus sequel. A while back Disney announced that they were looking for “leads in the vein of Tina Fey and Melissa McCarthy.”
While we don’t know if Tina Fey will be starring in the vehicle, or Melissa McCarthy for that matter, it does look like this project is going forward, and if Disney’s unofficial casting call is any evidence, this may be a great companion for the original Hocus Pocus.
It doesn’t surprise us that Disney would want to capitalize on the fame of the original. It’s been two decades since the original hit theaters, which means this project will be perfect to usher in the next generation of Hocus Pocus fans.
The Tracking Board reports that this sequel/spin off of sorts will take place only a few years after the original film. Instead of casting a new Max or a character like Max, the new Hocus Pocus film will center around a stay-at-home-mom who joins a witch hunter to battle the cover of new evil witches.
According to the source, as stated the sequel will be “focusing on a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating.”
While we would love some cameos from Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, or Kathy Najimy there haven’t been any announcements made regarding the cast.
