Facebook Sues “Shagbook” Over Trademark Infringement

Facebook has filed a lawsuit against “Shagbook.com” alleging that the site has infringed on their trademarked name and now Shagbook is firing back, claiming that “Facebook” is a “generic term.”

According to Facebook the site has:

“The intent to call to mind and create a likelihood of confusion … and/or trade off the fame of Facebook.”

Shagbook site creator SNRG Ventures claims that the site’s founder came up with the website name from an notebook he used to carry around.

The Facebook tactic could backfire with SNRG arguing that the name should never have been trademarked in the first place since it was originally a generic term used for other sites, including the Harvard facebook.
