Marg Helgenberger Saying “Goodbye” to ‘CSI’

, a popular TV series that CBS claims is “the most watched in the world,” has been dealing with a number of cast changes in the past few months – and things don’t appear to be slowing down.

Actress Marg Helgenberger, 56, who plays the part of former crime scene supervisor Catherine Willows and has been with the show since its inception, officially announced that this 12th season of CSI will be her last.

“I was planning on leaving after last season,” Helgenberger said at Wednesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, adding that producers talked her into staying for one extra season so they could better script her exit. “The combination of that info and me having a hard time letting go of this show and this group of people, I said yeah, maybe I still need more of this part of the process. I’m not done yet playing this character, I’m not done yet letting go. That’s why I decided to extend it a little bit.”

Marg’s planned exit comes just as former Cheers actor Ted Danson joins the cast. Danson, who replaces Laurence Fisburne, will play CSI supervisor DB Russell – a family man who grew up in a commune with folk-singing parents.

Season 12 of CSI premiers on September 21st.

Will you miss Helgenberger’s character on the show? Does Danson’s arrival help?
