Warwick Davis Reveals The Advantages Of Being Short On Reddit AMA

Warwick Davis has played a lot of memorable characters in front of the camera. He’s taken the role of an Ewok on Star Wars, Professor Fillius Flitwick on Harry Potter, and as a fictionalized version of himself on the Ricky Gervais mockumentary Life’s Too Short. Yesterday, Davis visited Reddit AMA to reveal some of the greatest things he has done and experienced as an actor. During his visit on the popular online Q and A forum, Davis gave a hearty shout-out to a Star Wars themed charity event called Star Wars: Force for Change, which benefits the UNICEF Innovation Labs and Programs.

Fans were delighted to see Warwick Davis give time to address a few intriguing questions regarding his work and his experiences as a dwarf actor. Here are some of the best questions asked:

Redditor daniel_decrissio asked:

How hard was it not to laugh during the Liam Neeson episode of “Life’s too short”?

Warwick answered:

“Impossible, because I did laugh. 50% of the outtakes from the wholes series were made up of laughing during that scene. If it wasn’t me laughing it would be Ricky, Stephen, or Liam.”

For those who have not seen it, Liam Neeson, appeared in Davis’ show as a fictionalized version of himself, asking Gervais and Merchant to advise him as he ventures on a new career as a stand-up comedian. Here is the full clip:

Redditor Pendagron3 asked:

Do you have a funny experience on the set of Harry Potter that you can share with us?

Also, what was it like wearing the goblin costume? How long did the prosthetics take to put on?

Warwick answered:

“I think it was the time that Michael Gambon conspired to make Daniel laugh by making an electronic fart machine under a bag, and he had a little button in his hand that triggered the sound from this little fart machine, and a fart sound rang out through the Great Hall, causing Daniel to laugh along with the other students.

The scenes in the great hall all look very magical, but you need to bear in mind that the great feast may well have been on the table for about 3 days, so it was inedible and smelled terrible. That said, creating those scenes, especially the ones that were set at Christmastime was really special.”

Fortunately, we have a clip of that one as well:

Redditor Indydegrees2 asked one of the most intriguing questions on the thread:

Hi Warwick,
what is something that’s easier because of your height that people don’t realize?

“That’s a good question. I was the chin up champion at my school because I have good upper body strength and little weight. I could do a lot more than you could. That, and air travel. I dont need the leg room.”
