Jaguar Convertible 2015 To Be A Limited Number, Engine Horsepower Not Quite A Supercar [Photos]

The new 2015 Jaguar convertible was announced at the Geneva Motor Show week, but car fans may be disappointed that only 250 units of the new F-Type sports cars are to be manufactured… so far.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the new Jaguar convertible will be replacing the Jaguar XK series. The reason the car manufacturer will be discontinuing the XK is partially because it was directly competing with the F-Type series:

“Jaguar has seen a dramatic drop in sales of its XK series since the debut of the F-Type. In 2013, the auto manufacturer sold only 4,000 XK’s and its projections show a continued deterioration of XK sales as the F-Type continues to take precedence.”

The Project 7 concept car that was shown off last year essentially turned out to be the Jaguar convertible, although the styling has been toned down a bit from the original version. The fin-like fairing behind the driver’s seat is still the most defining feature. The biggest departure is that the Project 7 concept was a single seat vehicle while the actual Jaguar convertible is a two seater. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type will be available in five metallic colors, including Ultra Blue, Caldera Red, British Racing Green, Ultimate Black, and Glacier White.

But this limited edition Jaguar convertible is not just about looks. Its supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine can push out 567 horsepower and 502 pounds per feet of torque, which might almost qualify it as a supercar depending on who you ask. For example, if you check out this list of supercars an Aston Martin V8 Vantage is listed as a supercar and its engine “only” outputs 420 horsepower with 346 pounds per feet of torque.

Of course, when people think supercar they usually say Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, or something along those lines. Some of these production vehicles push out well over 1,000 horsepower and can do zero to 60 MPH in under three seconds. The Jaguar convertible probably will not be that crazy fast but the company is claiming the 2015 F-Type will be the fastest, most powerful Jag ever put out as a product model.

Do you think the 2015 Jaguar convertible could qualify as a supercar?
