Texas Roof Collapse Injures Dozens Gathered For Religious Ceremony [Breaking]

A Houston area roof collapse injured at least 40 people gathered for a religious ceremony.

Firefighters near Katy, in Harris County, responded with multiple paramedics to help with the structural collapse on Thursday afternoon. Breaking news reports about the roof collapse indicate that the second floor of a garage apartment collapsed. Both the West 1-10 Volunteer Fire Department and Houston firefighters are on the Park Mill and Park Rush scene helping victims.

Witness reports indicate that some of the people inside the garage when the roof collapsed banded together to hold up several support beams to keep others from being crushed. During a press conference from the scene local officials stated that currently only one injury was deemed extremely serious or life threatening.

Aerial views from local news helicopters revealed that some garage collapse victims are being treated inside the parking area and others have been loaded onto stretchers and being treated on the lawn. Approximately 150 adults and children were attending the religious ceremony on Katy, Texas.

The event was being held as part of an instillation of idols or a shrine for a Northern Indian religion. The sect is not believed to have any violent ties and is known to be a peaceful group – the celebration had been a calm event until a rotted floor is thought to have given way. Patients have been transported to at least three local hospitals, including Texas Children’s Hospital.
