Considering the success of Borderlands, it’s not all that far fetched to think Gearbox will be putting out a sequel, to put it one way. According to a report by Eurogamer, they are – and it could be out as soon as next year.
An anonymous source tipped the site off that Gearbox was hard at work on a sequel. Work is apparently far enough along that the source expects the title to ship out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime next year, with an official announcement expected “soon”.
This isn’t the first rumor we’ve heard regarding an impending Borderlands 2 release, though. Back in April of this year, the sequel was spotted on a developer’s CV. Unsurprisingly, Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford denied the whole thing. He had this to say to Eurogamer about the rumor back in April:
“I can tell you that myself and everyone at Gearbox LOVES Borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it’s gotten from our customers and the fact that it’s sold over four million units now. So you can see that we supported the game like mad with lots of great DLC and you can imagine that we’re going to want to do a lot of things with Borderlands in the future. But we’ve only announced what we’ve announced. If we haven’t announced it, it doesn’t exist.”
Sure it doesn’t exist, Pitchford. Suuuure.
