Tom Cruise Could Have Star Wars Cameo Thanks To Harrison Ford Injury

Tom Cruise could be working on a Star Wars cameo, with rumors emerging after Tom met up with director J.J. Abrams in London.

A source said that the two met up with some other film execs and discussed giving Tom a cameo in the upcoming Episode VII.

“On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel,” the source told the UK’s Sun. “J.J. loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance.”

The two already worked together on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, so it might make sense of Tom Cruise has a cameo in the upcoming Star Wars movie.

While it’s still unclear whether Cruise will appear in the movie, work on the Star Wars revival is moving forward at full speed. Disney announced there would be six new installations of the series in the next six years, and has already announced the players for Episodes 8 and 9.

The studio tapped Israeli producer Roam Bergman, a veteran of the sci-fi genre after the movie Looper. Rian Johnson, who worked with Bergman on Looper and Brick, will direct the next two movies as well.

Television fans might be familiar with Johnson’s work. He directed three episodes of Breaking Bad, including the critically acclaimed “Ozymandias.” Time magazine called the episode the best of 2013, while series creator Vince Gilligan said it was “the best episode we ever had or ever will have.”

Star Wars fans have been getting excited at many of the casting decisions, which included bringing back series favorites Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Peter Mayhew.

The newest movie will also have Harrison Ford, though he will be missing some filming time after suffering a broken leg when the Millennium Falcon malfunctioned and crushed his ankle.

An insider said this accident actually may have made room for a Tom Cruise cameo in the Star Wars sequel.

“Losing Harrison Ford [to a broken leg] is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there’s some time to play around with,” the source said.

If there is a Tom Cruise cameo in the Star Wars movie, it would not be the first time he has been inserted into the cast of a movie without getting a billing. Cruise also donned a fat suit and heavy makeup to play a sleazy agent in Tropic Thunder, with the role being something of a secret.
