Missing Baby Found: Jogger Finds Baby In Car Seat Crying Behind Bushes After Amber Alert For Genesis Haley Was Issued

A missing baby case in Houston, Texas has a good ending, thanks to a jogger being in the right place at the right time. A jogger found 8-month-old Genesis Haley crying behind some bushes in her car seat after an Amber Alert was issued for her early Monday morning.

The Huffington Post states in their updated report that Genesis was found near the site where her mother’s car was recovered earlier. She was transferred by ambulance to a nearby hospital around 8 am.

Someone stole her mother’s car while she was inside paying for gas very early Monday morning, Fort Bend Herald reports. The baby was still inside the 2004 green four-door Saturn Ion that was parked at a Houston Texaco fuel pump. Police located the car abandoned on Greens Parkway, but Genesis and the car seat were missing. The vehicle’s license plates were removed and personal belongings thrown into a grassy area.

NBC News identifies the jogger who found the missing baby as Hong Nguyen, 34. She tells the news source that she followed Genesis’ cries:

“It was human sounds, not animal sounds.”

Nguyen began looking for the crying baby by searching through the surrounding brush. The jogger soon found Genesis Haley sleeping — still strapped in her car seat in a field along the road. Nguyen thought the baby was “abandoned.” The woman adds that the whole thing was “scary” and that she hadn’t heard anything about a missing baby that morning.

Shaun Sylvester of the Houston Police Department say surveillance video shows how fast things happened at the gas station when the little girl’s mother went inside to pay for gas:

“She was in there a matter of seconds before she saw someone get into her vehicle.”

Sylvester says about Genesis’ mother:

“In the video she’s frantic.”

Nguyen is from Vietnam and currently visiting family in Houston. She’s happy to be a big part of the very reason the missing baby is reunited with her mother:

“That’s why I say I’m a lucky person to find the baby and give her back to her parents in good condition.”

The unidentified mom gave police a detailed description of the suspect she saw drive off with her car. A spokeswoman with the Houston police say the alleged suspect is a “black male, about 5′ 9″ tall, in his late teens to early 20s.”

Fortunately, the missing baby was found safe and sound just hours after her mother’s car was stolen.
