Student Trapped In Giant Stone Vagina, Becomes Instant Viral Celebrity

An American student in Germany is red faced after becoming trapped in a giant stone vagina and having the resultant images shared across the world by a friend giggling at his embarrassing predicament.

Images of the stone vagina and the trapped young man were posted to the image hosting sister site to Reddit, Imgur, prompting a worldwide outpouring of media jokes about the situation. (We will abstain from such obvious and pedestrian attempts at humor.)

The vagina statue story was bookended with a more serious cave rescue tale also out of Southern Germany, but this one was a bit less dire… just mortifying.

The student, who has not been named and probably does not want to be, was with a buddy who posted the images to Imgur with the caption “My Friend Got Stuck in the Vagina Statue in Tubingen.”

According to The Guardian, the now-infamous vagina statue incident occurred Friday, and the paper reports:

“On Friday afternoon, a young American in Tübingen had to be rescued by 22 firefighters after getting trapped inside a giant sculpture of a vagina. The Chacán-Pi (Making Love) artwork by the Peruvian artist Fernando de la Jara has been outside Tübingen University’s institute for microbiology and virology since 2001 and had previously mainly attracted juvenile sniggers rather than adventurous explorers.”

The stone vagina statue weighs 32 tons and is crafted from red Veronese marble. de la Jara says the piece is meant to invoke the “gateway to the world.”

Witness Erick Guzman took the picture, and said that his friend “just wanted to take a funny picture in the vagina statue… the Germans told us it was a normal thing to do!”

In the end, five emergency vehicles and 22 firemen responded to liberate the young student trapped in the vagina sculpture.

The paper also quotes a local media source’s reference to the mayor of Tübingen’s alleged commentary on the story. According to The Guardian, the man reportedly mused upon how such an event could happen “even when considering the most extreme adolescent fantasies,” adding that “to reward such a masterly achievement with the use of 22 firefighters almost pains my soul.”

While the stone vagina story made for a funny picture and a share-worthy story, the piece of art involved was quite valuable and many worried about its integrity following the dramatic rescue. However, it has been reported that no damage was done to the €120,000 piece during the course of the incident.
