Kaley Cuoco’s Svelte Fashion On Display At Critics’ Choice Awards

Kaley Cuoco Reserved Style At 2014 Critics' Choice Awards

Kaley Cuoco stepped out in her business casual best tonight for the 2014 Critics’ Choice Awards. A dramatic shift from the flowing white dress she wore to last year’s ceremony, Kaley wore a slim-fitting black jacket and short pant suit. It’s a more serious image for the actor, whose recent pixie cut has led to a series of new looks.

Cuoco and her Big Bang Theory co-star Mayim Bialik were both up for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, a category that resulted in a tie between Allison Janney and Kate Mulgrew.

Although not everyone was a fan – Zap2It.com added Cuoco to its “Worst Dressed” list for the award show, offering Kaley a backhanded compliment: “Those [drop-crotch] pants do not look good on literally anyone, not even incredibly attractive TV actresses.”

Perhaps, for celebrity journalists, Kaley’s recent fashion evolution is taking some getting used to. Cuoco was at a Vera Wang store launch event on Rodeo Drive yesterday, and E! Online compared her short hairdo, with angled bangs, to a 90’s hair salon catalogue.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, liked the look at the Wang event, stating that Cuoco “covered up in a pretty two-piece which stuck to a brown and blue floral palette. With her newly shorn locks arranged in a tousled fashion, she gave her look an edgy twist.”

Kaley is definitely taking some fashion forward steps and experimenting with her look in the wake of the new haircut. Her Critics’ Choice ensemble was accented by striking cat’s eye makeup, which flattered her flawless skin and hazel eyes. The makeup was the work of Kayleen McAdams, who captioned her Instagram shot of Cuoco’s dramatic eyelids with reference to a cinema beauty legend: “Move over Sophia Loren, Kaley’s cat eyes have come out to PLAY! #MEOW”

Indeed, the 60’s fashion influence was evident at the Vera Wang event as well. Despite the E! Online assessment, Kaley’s hairstylist Christine Symonds — the woman responsible for Kaley’s missing long locks — praised the makeup job done by Jamie Greenberg:

The comparison is striking, in particular with Kaley’s bangs swooped off to the side, similar to her look from tonight.

Kaley took the time to pose for an Instagram snap with her husband, Ryan Sweeting, before the ceremony. Cuoco also gave a shout out to her “glam squad” — McAdams, Symonds and stylist Tara Swennen.
