A 31-year-old Dallas man, who purposely infected a 15-year-old girl with HIV during sex, has pleaded guilty to the charges against him, and will now face the rest of his life behind bars.
According to police, Matthew Louis Reese knew he had HIV at the time he had unprotected sex with the minor, but did not tell her. The girl, who cannot be named, said she was a virgin when she met Reese.
After having sex with him, she fell sick and entered into a coma which lasted for two weeks; she spent a total of 40 days in hospital.
During a phone call she had with Reese from her hospital bed he spoke about “the symptoms of HIV,” but she didn’t think she had the disease because Reese told her that he was “clean.”
Later, when she was diagnosed with HIV, she contacted the police to tell them.
In court on Tuesday, Reese pleaded guilty to three charges: aggravated sexual assault of a child with a deadly weapon; aggravated sexual assault with serious bodily injury; and sexual assault of a child.
He received a total sentence of more than 95 years.
The victim, who is now 17, testified in court that she had never had a boyfriend before and didn’t even know how to kiss when she called a premium chat line in 2012 and met Reese.
Even though she told him initially that she was 17, on the night he met her in person she admitted to Reese that she was only 15, and therefore too young to have sex.
The girl told police that Reese persuaded her to have sex with him in a car outside the Garland movie theater, telling her that if she didn’t have sex with him “it will make a man want to cheat.”
During their nearly seven month relationship, the girl and Reese had unprotected sex a number of times.
The victim’s mother told police of the suffering she has gone through since finding out that her daughter has HIV: “I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep.”
Thankfully the perpetrator of this heinous crime will spend the rest of his days behind bars.
Most people agree that’s where he belongs.
