Boy Finds Mummified Body: Mummified Corpse Found Hanging By Neck In Ohio Home

A boy finds a mummified body in Dayton, Ohio while checking out a home that he thought was abandoned. According to CNN, the 12-year-old boy entered the home (for unknown reasons) only to find a mummified corpse hanging by the neck in one of the closets. The boy told his mother what he had found and she entered the home to check it out herself. Upon entering the room where the body was hanging by a rope, the mother smelled something dreadful.

Montgomery County Coroner’s office spokesman, Ken Betz, “estimated that Brunton had been hanging there since the fall of 2009.” It appears as though Mr. Brunton committed suicide, but the official cause of death has not been determined. The body has been identified as Edward Brunton, a man who once lived in the home. The man’s brother was able to confirm this.

So why did the boy find a mummified body and not just a skeleton? Coroner Kent Harshbarger explained:

“Because of the location where he was found, it was relatively protected, sunlight-protected, temperature-protected and low humidity.”

Apparently Mr. Brunton wasn’t in contact with his family and didn’t talk to any of his neighbors. Police assume that this is the reason that no one reported the man as “missing” over the past five years. Obviously it is not a normal thing to find in an abandoned house and neighbors in the area are a little freaked out — and understandably so.

Neighbor, Ciera Richter, told WDNT:

“My reaction, I mean, I’m kinda scarred. I want to, you know, I want to be able to know more, you know, cause I having a son and I’m about to raise him right in this house so when you guys tell me a dead body, I’m like, you know, I’ve never seen no activity, you know, for nothing bad… I don’t know.”

This isn’t the first time that a mummified body has been found — and it certainly won’t be the last. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, a youth group in Chile recently stumbled upon a mummified body last month. The body that was found was determined to be about 7,000 years old. The group was part of an archeology workshop. The body was found after a landslide that followed a 8.2-magnitude earthquake. Many ancient artifacts were “forced to the surface” which likely explains how the youth group came across their amazing discovery.
