‘Angry Birds: Transformers’ Getting Ready To Roll Out, Possibly As A Racer?

Angry Birds: Transformers is in the works, according to some official artwork. Considering the various ways the franchise has branched off, this could be the first commercial tie-in to launch a racing spin-off.

While it might seem like an innovative way to draw attention to Angry Birds GO!, Rovio’s planned crossover seems like a bit of overkill for a racing game. If it is racing, you will probably use the vehicle mode for speed and the robot mode to jump over obstacles or shoot down pesky Deceptihogs.

Another possible way that Transformers might be making their way into Angry Birds is through Disney Infinity style toys, using a scanner, which could bring Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, among others, into Rovio’s world. Perhaps there will be figurines released with QR codes on them?

Always going for the humor, the latest tie-in uses the slogan “Birds disguised as robots in disguise,” cleverly poking fun at the Transformers‘ classic slogan. Angry Birds: Transformers is set to hit mobile devices in September, possibly cashing in a few months after Michael Bay’s first entry in the new film trilogy. While the two forms of media will most likely only have the title and a few characters in common, there doesn’t appear to be any other connection. That might not stop Transformers fanatics from buying the game anyway just to complete their collection.

The possible story is reported to revolve around the very first Transformers animated movie (decades before Michael Bay got his hands on it), with Unicron and the Matrix of Leadership. The animated movie followed the story of the death of Optimus Prime and the rise of his successor Rodimus Prime as Megatron and his jet lackeys were remade entirely.

Allegedly, you will be able to play as both the Autobirds and Deceptihogs, and it’s unknown how that will work. Unicron simply wouldn’t work in a racing game, except possibly as a distant villain to shoot at or on a track by itself.

What do you think Rovio‘s upcoming Angry Birds: Transformers will be like? Does it make you eager to transform and roll out to the mobile shop on its September release date?
