How NOT To Handle A Baby: New Book Tells Parents The Exact Wrong Way, And It’s Pretty Funny

Safe Baby Handling Tips is a new book from David and Kelly Sopp, the couple who since 2001 have made a living by finding the humorous side of parenting. They founded their company, Wry Baby, back then and ever since they have created a wide range of baby-related products, all with a wry twist.

For example, Wry Baby offers baby snap suits (aka “onesies”) emblazoned with such slogans as “My Mommy Can Beat Up Your Mommy Group,” “I Might Barf,” and “Junior Daredevil Stroller Club.” That sort of thing.

While David Sopp worked as an advertising art director in San Francisco for 15 years before quitting his job to make funny baby clothes, he seemed destined to use his talents for humor since his first job, taken as a high schooler at age 15.

“My first paid job was illustrating a hose-handling guide for the Orange County Fire Department,” Sopp recalls. “I was in Junior High and it sounded as hilariously dirty then as it does now.”

In addition to funny onesies, the Sopps have authored a couple of books, both of them illustrated in instructional cartoon style. Their new book, a follow-up to the earlier Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips, is of course, Safe Baby Handling Tips.

So if you are a new parent, or if you have ever been a parent — or are thinking of becoming one — we think you’ll get the joke in these “tips,” which let you know exactly the wrong way to handle a baby.

There are many more where these came from, in the actual book. But these 25 “tips” should give you a start toward becoming a safe baby handling expert.
