Harrison Ford Injured On ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Set

News that Harrison Ford has been injured on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII hit on Thursday afternoon. The original cast member hurt his ankle and was taken to a local hospital, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Following the incident, Disney issued the following statement:

“Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.”

A source tells THR that Ford, who is reprising his role as Han Solo, from the original Star Wars trilogy, hurt himself by the door of the Millennium Falcon, his character’s spacecraft. Rumor is apparently confirmed that the legendary “piece of junk” will be making a return in J.J. Abrams’ seventh installment of the Star Wars saga.

It is unclear exactly where Harrison Ford, 71, was when he injured himself, but the information is that Star Wars: Episode VII is being shot at the famous Pinewood Studios in London, England. Ford, is joined by original co-stars Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Aside from Ford, Hamill, and Fisher, Abrams’ blockbuster has cast a mix of up and coming actors and veterans, which include: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Max von Sydow. They will join the rest of the original cast members Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

Harrison Ford’s character, Han Solo, is rumored to be central to the plot of Star Wars: Episode VII, which is set 30-years following the events in Star Wars Episode VI: The Empire Strikes Back. In the last episode of the prequels, the Force defeats Darth Vader and the Death Star.

Not much else is known about what will transpire in Star Wars: Episode VII, but one thing is clear, J.J. Abrams guards his plot fiercely. He recently took to Twitter (via his production company) to comment on leaks regarding the possible return of the Millennium Falcon:

We are hoping Harrison Ford will be recovered from his injury so he can complete his much anticipated appearance as Han Solo, in Star Wars: Episode VII. More news as they become available.
