‘Halo 5: Guardians’ Trailer Drops At E3 2014, Mystery Spartan Revealed! [Video]

The Halo 5: Guardians trailer dropped at E3 2014, answering the big question that has been on fans’ minds since the box art was leaked. Who was the mystery Spartan opposite the Master Chief?

Some speculated that the character was none other than an android with Cortana’s AI implanted, effectively making her a full character and not just an AI companion hologram. Others thought it might be the woman who supplied the voice for Cortana, finally joining in on the action, and all of the guesses were proven wrong when 343 Industries debunked them early on.

Who was the character opposite Master Chief in the box art? In the Halo 5: Guardians trailer from E3 2014, we get to see what we believe to be Master Chief in action as he literally rides a bomb to its destination and kicks off at the last minute. A voice-over speaks to us in the second person, talking about the Master Chief and telling us to “forget the legends,” as the recipient of the lecture listens in.

Eventually the voice-over calls him Agent Locke, apparently the latest soldier in 343 Industries’ new chapter to the Halo saga. This same Arbiter voice-over will be used throughout the animated series Halo Nightfall (unlocked by playing through Halo: Master Chief Collection) to explain the connection between Halo 4 and Halo 5.

Halo Nightfall will also explain the mysterious new character of Agent Locke. 343 Industries is using the animated show to fully flesh out the story and get you primed for the Halo 5: Guardians release date in 2015 on Xbox One.

It appears that in order to get the full story you may have to buy the collection, featuring all of the past games minus ODST and Reach, and watch the animated series produced by Ridley Scott. Until then, you still have the Halo 5: Guardians trailer from E3 2014 to scour for any details we may have missed.
