Fox Streaming Shows Getting ‘Authenticated’ Pay TV Requirement Starting In August

Fox TV starting August 15 will require that online streaming users have an authenticated account from a participating provider in order to watch shows online for the first eight days after they air on network television.

Currently only Dish Network has signed on as an “authenticated” network for the network, however other company’s are expected to join the Fox TV Everywhere lineup in the near future.

Fox is the first major broadcast network to launch such plans, however they are not the first TV network to do so, ESPN, ESPN3, WatchESPN and EPIX have all began requiring authentication for new shows.

So there you have it, if you’re not paying for cable you’ll soon have to wait eight days for all the newest shows, which seems like a small price to pay when avoiding ever increasing monthly cable fees.
