Grumpy Cat Lands First Staring Role In Lifetime Holiday Movie

Grumpy Cat has landed her first official starring movie role! Now we know Grumpy Cat has become the go-to cat when it comes to entertainment purposes, but the cat known for her famous frown has never had her very own movie. Well, Lifetime is about to change that.

According to US Weekly, Lifetime is set to bring Grumpy Cat to television this season for a holiday special! Move over Grinch, Grumpy Cat is coming to town! The Hollywood Reporter claims that Lifetime will be featuring Grumpy Cat in a holiday movie titled, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.

Grumpy Cat, actually named Tardar Sauce, first made a name for herself back in 2012 when she became an internet meme after owner Tabatha Bundesen’s brother posted a photo of the cat on Reddit. Since that fateful day, Grumpy Cat has become a household name. She’s made countless television appearances, was the subject of a book and has even become the face of a coffee product!

The Grumpy Cat holiday movie is set to begin filming this summer and everyone is asking the same question: Who will be voicing the role of the famous feline? Well, there are currently no answers to that question, though according to The Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime is currently looking for that special someone who will put a voice to the famous frown.

Spongebob SquarePants‘ Tim Hill and Jeff Morris are the masterminds behind the Grumpy Cat holiday movie script. According to US Weekly, the movie revolves around a pet-store cat that is “perpetually overlooked and a 12-year-old girl who can communicate with her.”

“It brings fun and irreverence that we haven’t had at Lifetime,” Vice President of Original Movies Arturo Interian told The Hollywood Reporter.

Interian went on to describe the upcoming TV movie as “a little Home Alone and a little Die Hard,” and said the film will also feature cameos from other famous internet memes. Grumpy Cat’s manager, Ben Lashes, told The Hollywood Reporter that he believes Lifetime is the “perfect venue” for the famous feline.

“When I go home for Christmas, there are movies that we always watch,” he adds. “It becomes a tradition. I like that aspect of Christmas movies.”
