Man Kills Sex Offender Who Molested His Daughter

An Alabama man is being charged with murder after fatally shooting a sex offender who abused his daughter in 2001, when the girl was reportedly just 7 years old.

MailOnline reports that the father, who is not being identified by the paper in order to protect the identity of his daughter, gunned down 59-year-old Raymond Earl Brooks at his parent’s house in Cullman Country, Alabama. The murder took place Sunday night, part of a shooting rampage that also saw the unidentified man driving cross-county on his motorcycle to open fire on his stepdaughter’s boyfriend, who was able to avoid being shot by hiding in a gas station.

According to ABC, Brooks was a convicted sex offender who lived with his parents. Documents show that the unnamed father was a witness against Brooks in a 2001 sexual abuse case involving his daughter. Brooks pleaded guilty to the charges in 2002, and although he was sentenced to 5 years in prison, ended up serving probation and paying restitution.

Cullman County Chief Deputy Max Barlett said that the pair “obviously didn’t have whole lot of good blood between them,” although it was unclear if the shooting was directly linked to the case. “It is odd,” Barlett added, saying, “He apparently had a lot of stressors going on in his life.”

The gun used in both shootings was a 9mm pistol that the father was legally allowed to carry. The unnamed man was charged with murder and shooting into an unoccupied building. According to Barlett, he had been in trouble with police before, having twice been cited for domestic violence. Although some community members are already posting on social media that the convicted sex offender “got what he deserved,” Barlett is quick to point out that police do not look at the situation any differently. Saying that Brooks did not violate the terms of his probation or sex offender restrictions, Barlett added, “Regardless of any past or pending crimes that he may have committed, this was murder.”

The incident marks the second time in the last two months that someone is in the news for killing a sex offender. As The Inquisitr previously reported, a Union Country, South Carolina couple were sentenced to life in prison for a plot in which they killed a registered sex offender and his wife. The couple reportedly told the court, “That’s what child molesters get.” In 2012, a Washington state man named George Wood was arrested for the murders of two sex offenders. Specifically targeting sex offenders, he didn’t intend to stop after the two killings.
