One of the best new cars — in theory, at the very least — coming in 2015 gets 84 MPG. So how much will it cost you to save that much at the pump? That’s the best part for consumers who have spent the last 10 years getting robbed blind at the pump. The company producing the 84 miles-per-gallon car is shooting for a $6,800 price tag.
So who’s producing a car that sips gas like a Japanese motorcycle and what third world country are they producing it in? That’s actually part of what makes it one of the best new cars coming in 2015. Believe it or not, the company is based out of Troy, Michigan and, according to a Yahoo! Finance report, plans on producing their 84 MPG car at an assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana — a former General Motors plant that formerly rolled out vehicles such as the the Chevy S-10, Chevy Colorado, and Hummer H2.
The company making one of the best new cars coming in 2015 is Elio Motors.
Unfortunately, the Elio — named for company founder and engineer Paul Elio — won’t work for everyone, at least not as an only vehicle. It gets 84 MPG in part because of its sleek, aerodynamic design. The car has three wheels (in fact, there is some dispute over whether it should technically be considered a car or a motorcycle, though it is completely enclosed) and two seats — one in front of the other. Families with children will undoubtedly need a second car if they buy an Elio. That doesn’t mean it isn’t still one of the best new cars for families — it just means that you won’t be taking the whole family out for a Sunday drive.
Let’s face it, the majority of people’s car trips involve one person driving to or from wherever they’re going. Whether it’s work or shopping, most of our every day trips don’t require more than two seats. Elio Motors is promoting their two-seat 84 MPG vehicle largely as a second car — and they’ll likely be one of the best new cars available for that purpose, especially for those who need to pinch pennies. At significantly less than half the cost of the average new car in the US, they may be the best deal on the road for the budget-conscious.
The Elio is expected to be available in September 2015, according to a report in Newsmax. Between now and then, Elio Motors has been touring the country, allowing potential customers to check their vehicles out. You can keep up to date with their tour schedule on the Elio Motors company website.
What do you think? Would you be willing to try a three-wheeled vehicle if it gets 84 MPG and is available for $6,800? Do you agree it has the potential to be one of the best new cars on the market?
