This Summer Camp Letter Reminds Us Why Kids Are Awesome

The summer camp letter you’re about to read was originally posted by Liesl Testwuide of the ScaryMommy blog, and recently appeared on MSN.

Liesl admits that when she told her 8-year-old son to write home, she was expecting something a little different than what arrived in the mail.

“I fantasized I would receive a letter something like this,” Testwuide begins.

Dear Mom,

Thank you so much for letting me go to camp. I have learned so many cool things, like how to take a fish off the hook, tie sailing knots, and how to groom a horse. Thanks for packing sun screen. I’ve been out on the lake a lot, so it’s really come in handy. You think of everything! I’ve been drinking tons of water since it’s so hot. See? I do listen to all your good advice.

However, the next day, Liesl says, his actual letter arrived, and it totally reminded us why kids are so awesome.

Take it away, young man!

In response to what is truly the most epic summer camp letter of all time, the MSN community hasn’t been able to stop laughing.

They’ve even shared some pretty awesome tales of their own.

JANNIEM writes: “I sent my 8 yr old son with self addressed, stamped envelopes. When my first letter finally arrived, I eagerly opened it, only to find it empty! He thought I had also written the letters that went inside the self addressed envelopes!”

8488mustang writes: “He sounds like a normal kid to me! LOL!!!… And kid…DO NOT light those (f)arts…trust me…it can come to bad ends! Just ask Mike Murphy, Class of ’71 from my high school in Canoga Park…we all had a great laugh…at his expense!”

The letter has since gone viral and amassed more than 101,000 Facebook likes, 479 pins, 463 tweets, and 41,800 shares on MSN.

I could have never imagined writing to an audience that big at eight years old; and I’m sure whatever I would have said, would have fallen far short of this little guy’s inventiveness.

Of course, there are some in the comments section crying foul, but as someone who isn’t far removed from having multiple eight-year-olds in the family, I’ve got no reason to doubt this one.

Do you think this summer camp letter is the real deal? What’s the funniest thing your little ones have ever written or drawn for you? Share in the comments section.
