Dolly Parton Describes Herself As A ‘Cartoon Character’

Dolly Parton has a theory about why she appeals to children.

Although the country music legend doesn’t have any kids of her own, she doesn’t seem too bothered by the fact. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Parton is entirely opposed to the idea of children. In fact, she adores spending time with the younger members of her family. According to ABC News, they enjoy hanging out with Dolly as well.

“I think kids relate to me because they think of me like a Mother Goose or a Fairy Godmother. I’m like a cartoon character — my voice is little and I’m an excitable little person like them! I’m very childlike in that way, in my nature,” Parton recently explained to People magazine.

Regarding her decision to not have children, Dolly has zero regrets. She added:

“I grew up in a big old family with eight kids younger than me and several of my brothers and sisters came to live with me early on in my life. I’ve loved their kids just like they’re my grandkids, and now I’ve got great-grandkids! I often think, it just wasn’t meant for me to have kids so everybody’s kids can be mine.”

In case you haven’t heard Dolly Parton is also the godmother to controversial “Wrecking Ball” singer Miley Cyrus. Considering the amount of attention the former Hannah Montana star receives these days, this is essentially a full-time job.

“If I didn’t know how smart and talented Miley is, I might worry about her. She was very proud of the work she did as Hannah Montana, but people were gonna leave her there forever. And she was just smotherin’ and chokin’ in it. So she felt she had to do something completely drastic,” Dolly recently said in a Time magazine article.

“I’m hoping that now she can relax and show people how talented she really is. ‘Cause the girl can write. The girl can sing. The girl is smart. And she doesn’t have to be so drastic.”

When she isn’t hanging out with her family or making sure Miley isn’t taking her shenanigans too far over the top, Parton is staying busy with her own career. The Inquisitr previously reported that the singer is working on a musical and a motion picture based on her life, the latter of which may feature Scarlett Johansson. However, the actress hasn’t officially signed on for the project as of this writing.
