‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 2 Trailer, Info On Release Date [Video]

Who’s ready for the Orange is the New Black season 2 premiere? With less than a week to go until season 2 is released, fans of the Netflix Original Series are gearing up to see what has become of Taylor Schilling’s Piper in the new season.

This Jenji Kohan creation shines a bright light on the darkness of serving time in an all-woman minimum security prison. This show quickly became what everyone was talking about back when it debuted last summer on Netflix. Jenji Kohan is also known for other hit shows such as the dramedy Weeds which she wrote for Showtime and for which she received critical acclaim. During an interview with Terry Goss on Fresh Air public radio, Jenji was quoted as saying the following about the thought-provoking series Orange is the New Black:

Piper was my Trojan Horse. You’re not going to go into a network and sell a show on really fascinating tales of black women, and Latina women, and old women and criminals. But if you take this white girl, this sort of fish out of water, and you follow her in, you can then expand your world and tell all of those other stories.

It seems that Jenji Kohan has hit pay-dirt once more with Orange is the New Black. The prison drama stars Taylor Schilling, Taryn Manning, and Laura Prepon alongside a cast of characters played by equally provocative actors. In the first season, we learned of Piper Chapman’s questionable past and how it landed her behind bars. The story is based on the memoir of Piper Kermon who spent ten years in lock up after being arrested for trafficking drug money with her girlfriend.

As season one unfolded, Piper found herself in a rivalry with Taryn Manning’s Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett and ends up in a desperate situation where she physically assaults Tiffany in an act of self-defense. The new season will continue to push the envelope with a deeper look into the past of some of the fan’s favorite characters, such as Taystee, who is played by Danielle Brooks, and Uzo Aduba’s Suzanne aka “Crazy Eyes.” New characters join the cast in the second season of Orange is the New Black, as well. Lorraine Toussaint reoccurs in the role of Vee, a rival of Kate McGrew’s Red. In almost every way that the first season of OITNB thrilled audiences, this new season is certain to shock and awe in new ways.

Critics are already giving the new season of Orange rave reviews and the stars of the controversial and gritty drama are relentlessly promoting their new work. The stars have stepped out and dressed up, trading their prison scrubs for formal wear, to promote the new season together. The Orange is the New Black season 2 will be available on Netflix on June 6th, 2014.
