New Video Game Releases For The Week Of June 8, 2014

Unless you are a PC gamer, the new video game releases for the week of June 8, 2014 do not have much to offer. For the indie PC gaming crowd however, this is a great week with some highly anticipated games making their way onto PC and Mac via Steam.

The first new video game release we should mention is not only a licensed title, but also has the distinction of being the last game for the Nintendo Wii. How to Train Your Dragon 2 was developed by Torus Games who specializes in licensed properties and is celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2014. The game is being released alongside the movie from Dreamworks and will be also available on the last gen consoles, the Wii U and 3DS.

The next release for consoles worth considering for JRPG fans is the PlayStation 2 Classic Shin Megami Tensi: Digital Devil Saga 2. Most gamers have heard of the Persona series which is part of the same Megami Tensei universe from Atlas games. Featuring a “Press Turn” battle system and a traditionally convoluted story where everything in the real world is essentially digital at a quantum level, the game is sure to please gamers who want to explore deeper into the engaging Megami Tensi universe.

Enemy Front is the only new IP that is part of the new video game releases for the week. Set in World War II Germany, the gamer takes control of Robert Hawkins who is stuck deep behind enemy lines. The player chooses whether to fight your enemies close up, snipe them from a distance, or stealthily snake past and sabotage the enemy. The game is powered by CryENGINE 3 and looks gorgeous. There have been a lack of good WW II shooters as the industry is mired in the modern combat genre. Wolfenstein: The New Order and Enemy Front are the first new games that have allowed us to blast Nazi’s with impunity in a long time.

For the PC gamers, there is plenty to be excited about including the indie platformed Blood of the Werewolf. The game tells the story of Selena, loving mother, devoted wife, and powerful werewolf hellbent on taking revenge on the monsters that have killed her husband and stolen her child. The game is a “love letter” to classic platformers and has been on PC since May, but is making its way to Xbox 360 Live Arcade this week. The PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions are coming later.

Compared to last weeks offerings, the list of new video game releases below might seem a bit sparse, but if you are tired or hacking Chicago in Watch Dogs then there are some good diversions this week that are worth your attention.
