‘Cash Cab’ Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in Vancouver

Well, this is just sad.

You ever watch Cash Cab, that show where instead of getting into a regular, falafel and despair scented taxi, riders are subjected to an impromptu game show? It was a generally lighthearted affair, but a recently deadly incident in Canada is likely to cast a pall over the show’s enduring popularity.

A yellow cab used for production was involved in a collision last Friday night- and a 61-year-old pedestrian who was hit by the Cash Cab taxi was taken to a hospital, but died of his injuries. Scant details are available about the specifics of the accident, although filming for the day had ended when the man was injured.

In an emailed statement, Castlewood Productions’ president Andrew Burnstein expressed condolences to the man’s family and sympathy for the crew member involved in the accident:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family… My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, and our entire team.”

The victim has not been identified at his family’s request.
