Nia Vardalos Confirms ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ Sequel: Will John Stamos Join ‘Wedding’ Party?

Nia Vardalos

Nia Vardalos has confirmed that My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a sequel! Twelve years after the first movie’s release, Vardalos has teamed up with Playtone, HBO, and Gold Circle to bring back the Portokalos family for more big Greek fun. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vardalos and John Corbett have already inked deals to reprise their roles as Toula Portokalos and Ian Miller respectively.

“Playtone, HBO and Gold Circle are back as the entities behind the new project. Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are returning as producers (the latter two via their Playtone shingle). Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, Norm Waitt and Steve Shareshian will exec produce. Vardalos will also exec produce.”

Nia Vardalos is very excited to be bringing more Greek culture to the world by way of a film, and after the wild success of the first movie, she is hopeful that people will embrace the second. In case you were wondering who is going to be joining the cast, Vardalos says that everyone from the first movie has been “invited back” to take part in the sequel:

Fans of the original would also like to see John Stamos and Maria Menounos take part in the sequel.

Nia Vardalos is working on the script for the new film which will feature yet another Greek wedding and the reveal of a “family secret.” Further details about what will happen in the sequel have not been released and will likely remain quiet until the trailer comes out. IMDb does not have a page for the sequel yet, but many expect the film to be released by the end of 2015.

This seems to be the year for sequel announcements. Another highly anticipated sequel is Pitch Perfect 2. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, many Pitch Perfect stars have already signed on to star in the second film. Most recently Skylar Astin announced that he was officially part of the next movie and he’s pumped.

Perhaps nothing beats My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 but some people (particularly Greek writers like this one) might be biased. Many have wished that Nia Vardalos would put together another funny movie that highlights Greek culture and their wishes have come true.

Will you go see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 when it comes out? Are you excited for the sequel?
