Justin Bieber Outbids Leo DiCaprio At Charity Auction For Bulgari Necklace For Mom

Justin Bieber outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for a Bulgari “Serpenti” necklace at $545,000 at the 21st Cinema Against AIDS amfAR charity gala. It’s reportedly a gift for his mom, Pattie Mallette.

Remember that “wealthy gentleman” whose pledge Justin Bieber matched at last week’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS amfAR gala in Antibes, France, during the Cannes Film Festival?

Turns out, that gentleman was actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Bieber’s “pledge “was a bid in amfAR’s charity auction, which was co-hosted by Sharon Stone, a professional auctioneer and other guests.

According to Bulgari, Bieber and DiCaprio were the final two bidders vying for the “Serpenti” necklace — an iconic line beloved by the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor — who was one of the founders of The Foundation for AIDS Research 28 years ago.

But Bieber eventually outbid DiCaprio by nudging the necklace’s price to $545,000 (€400k). It’s valued at €150,000.

In so doing, the singer contributed a huge chunk to the $38 million raised for amfAR that night. The foundation backs research aimed at finding a broadly applicable AIDS cure by 2020.

The “Serpenti” necklace was worn and presented at the star-studded event by BVLGARI’s Ambassador, former First Lady of France, 46-year-old ex-supermodel Carla Bruni.

“Ladies, ladies, ladies, look at my necklace,” Bruni cooed onstage, over the white gold with 13.05 carat drop-shape Aquamarine stone and 19·2 carat of pavé diamonds laden signature snake piece, the Associated Press reports.

TMZ previously reported some of the guests at the gala who included – Jane Fonda, Adrian Brody, Marion Cotillard, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Sofia Coppola, William Dafoe, Gael Garcia Bernal, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Sir Philip Green, Heidi Klum, a lineup of supermodels and more — were stunned at Bieber’s bid.

The site claimed the singer was asked if he was serious about spending over half a million dollars.

To which, Justin reportedly replied “yes” adding that he just felt “inspired to do something good.”

And the cherry on the cake?

The necklace is reportedly destined to be worn by the 20-year-old’s mother, Pattie Mallette, according to multiple reports and a video of Justin taken at amfAR’s gala.

The Instagram video begins at the close of bidding for Damien Hirst’s gilded woolly mammoth skeleton which sold for $15 million and was the highest sale of the charity auction.

Bieber was seen sitting near Cody Simpson’s ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid and next to an unseen, boisterous male guest yelling: “Mommy, we love mommy.”

Meanwhile, Justin holds an auction booklet open at a page showing the BVLGARI “Serpenti” necklace while he says, “I love you mommy, I love you.”

It’s probably safe to say the Biebs has got Mother’s Day sewn up for the foreseeable.

Bieber also wowed when he turned up at the gala in a diamond-sharp, Dolce and Gabbana suit and a groomed hairstyle.

He was later snapped chatting with singer Lana Del Rey, movie maven Harvey Weinstein, Klum and others at the gala.

The German supermodel has since described the singer as “very polite and very nice” after hystericized media reports over her snaps with Bieber.

Two days in Monaco over the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend followed, before Bieber briefly returned to New York City for the wedding of his manager Scooter Braun’s brother, Adam.

The Canadian’s shirtless and T-shirted skateboarding in Central Park with Usher and streets with his bodyguards led to some odd glances from onlookers on Memorial Day.

But none were as startled as Pattie Mallette will be when she first gets a glimpse at Bieber’s Bulgari Serpenti necklace gift, worth over half a million dollars and all for a vital cause.
